The Jacksonville, Florida Alumnae Chapter has a long history of support for Wolfson Children's Hospital. Before our national organization forged a partnership with St. Jude, we were encouraged to support childrens' cancer research with our philanthropic efforts. We chose Wolfson Children's Hospital. More than 10 years ago, we started small with a themed cocktail party at a local art gallery - fabulous homemade "appies", a few donated items for a raffle, wine & beer, and loads of fun for the members. We donated $2,500-$3,000 each year, and the staff at the hospital treated us like a million dollar donor. What a great organization!
Our annual philanthropy took a big leap with the addition of a silent auction. After a donation of $10,000 to the hospital, we were asked to pledge $75,000 over 5 years. We named our event "Deltas in the Fast Lane", and with the help of several local businesses, we grew our event each year.
In May 2013, we were excited to announce the successful fulfillment of our 5-year pledge of $75,000 to Wolfson Children's Hospital. Now, a plaque bearing the name of the Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Chapter of Jacksonville proudly hangs beside the Family Oncology Waiting Room in the new Weaver Building of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida.
This was all made possible by the generous support of our members, our friends, several key corporate sponsors, and hundreds of donors of silent auction items! We could not have done it without them!
We continue to support Wolfson Children's Hospital in other ways. In 2015 & 2016, we participated in their local telethon. We raised $1,850 in just a few hours! Please plan to participate in the telethon again this year either by staffing the phone bank or by making a donation via the phone-in number that will be made available ahead of time!
